Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – Three University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer players scored over the final 20 minutes of play, lifting the Beavers to a 3-0 North Atlantic Conference win over visiting Cazenovia College, Saturday afternoon at Leib Field.
UMaine-Farmington outshot Cazenovia, 9-3, in the opening half, but was unable to put the ball past Wildcat keeper Meghan McCarthy and the game was still at 0-0 at the intermission.
The Beavers kept up the pressure throughout the second half, with Leah Stevens finally ending the scoreless deadlock in the 73rd minute with an unassisted score. Stevens rushed into the Wildcats' six-yard box and buried the loose rebound of a McKenna Brodeur shot that was uncorralled by the Cazenovia keeper and left uncleared by the Wildcat defense.
First year Abby Lash extended the UMaine-Farmington lead to 2-0 in the 86th minute, finishing off a well-placed cross from Brodeur on the side of the 18-yard box.
Aurelia Maietta added an unassisted insurance goal in the final minute of play with her left-footed shot into the upper-left corner of the Cazenovia goal. The goal was the first of Maietta's collegiate career.
Callie Hammer was credited with a pair of saves in the UMaine-Farmington goal on her way to the victory and her second shutout of the season, sixth shutout of her career. McCarthy tallied five stops in the Cazenovia goal. The Beavers finished the day with a 21-9 advantage in total shots.
