DELHI, New York – The University of Maine at Farmington golf team was fifth on the team leaderboard after 18 holes at the 2021 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Men's Golf Championship, was began play on Saturday at The College Golf Course at Delhi.
The Beavers carded a 337 (+53) in Saturday's opening round on the par 71, 6,442-yard Delhi course, and finished the day just four strokes behind fourth-place Thomas College (333, +49). UMaine-Farmington held an 18-stroke lead over sixth-place Northern Vermont-Johnson.
Husson leads the field with a 295 (+11), while SUNY Delhi (309, +25) and SUNY Canton (325, +41) hold down second and third place respectively.
Neil Larochelle III fired a three-over 74 in Saturday's round and was tied for third to lead UMaine-Farmington on the individual leaderboard. Larochelle opened his round with birdies on the par 3 no. 2 hole and the par 5 no. 3 hole, and closed out the round by carding par on eight of the nine holes on the back nine.
Daniel Mickiewicz finished the opening round tied for 23rd with an 87 (+16), while Ryan Sargent and Chris Frey each carded an 88 (+17) and were tied for 29th. Jack Burton shot a 90 (+19) to finish the day tied for 33rd on the leaderboard.
SUNY Delhi's Tom Christoffersen and Husson's Will Kavanaugh lead the 45-player field with one-over rounds of 72. Larochelle is tied with Husson's Jack King and Max Woodman for third.
UMaine-Farmington will tee off starting at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 10, for round 2 of the 2021 NAC Golf Championship. Frey will be the first Beaver to tee off, followed by Burton (10:24 a.m.), Sargent (10:33 a.m.), Mickiewicz (10:42 a.m.), and Larochelle (10:51 a.m.).
The final group of the day, with golfers from SUNY Canton, SUNY Delhi, and Husson, will tee off at 11:36 a.m.
