Beavers Take Second Place at NAC East Championship

Lewiston, Maine – UMaine-Farmington's track & field teams competed in the NAC East Invitational where the men finished in second out of seven teams and the women took third out of five teams.

The men finished with 140 points with the women finishing with 68 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED – Men

  • The men's team finished 2nd out of 7 teams at the NAC East Invitational and had 9 Top-10 performances in school history.
    • Antonio Ciccomancini had a day for the Beavers. He set two school records in both the 100m and 200m. His time of 11.22 in the 100m was good for a 2nd place finish, and he bounced back in the 200m to win the event with a blazing fast time of 22.37. He is currently ranked 10th in New England with this mark. He led UMF's scoring efforts with 18 points.
    • Justin Castaldo ran in 5 events on the day tallying 16 individual points. He ran the 4x100m, 1500m, 400m, 800m, and 4x400m. Both his 400m and 1500m performances were good for 4th all-time at UMF, running 52.76 and 4:27.09 respectively.
    • Alixx Canwell placed 2nd in both the shot put and discus with marks of 11.58m and 33.42m respectively. He accumulated 16 points on the day.
    • Alex Sheran had two PRs for the Beavers in the shot put and discus scoring 12 points. His marks of 10.59m for the shot and 32.86m in the disc were both good for 2nd all-time at UMF. 
    • Yussuf Adow competed in the 800m and high jump placing second in both and scoring 16 points for UMF on the day. He ran a 2:03.21 in the 800 which was good for 4th all-time at UMF, and jumped 1.85m which tied his school record from two weeks ago.
    • Abshir Abukar and Covy Dufort both ran the 400m hurdles taking 2nd place and 3rd place respectively.
    • The men's 4x400m relay team of Abshir Abukar, Isaiah Reid, Joe Ashby, and Justin Castaldo ran a season's best time of 3:34.75 which was just a half second off of the school record.
    Both Isaiah Reid and Isiaah Boria are graduating seniors for the Beavers who contributed to the 2nd place finish for the men's team.
