Box Score BANGOR, Maine – Husson University scored twice early in the opening half and carried that momentum the rest of the way in a 4-0 win over the visiting University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team, Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field.
Husson's Molly Ennis found the back of the UMaine-Farmington goal in the 11th minute of play, to put the Eagles in front, 1-0.
UMaine-Farmington immediately went on the counterattack, resulting in shots from McKenna Brodeur and Aurelia Maietta and a corner kick opportunity by Leah Stevens.
Stevens' corner kick did not yield any shot attempts, and Husson pressed the attack to the UMaine-Farmington end of the field where an initial shot by the Eagles' Charlotte Messer was stopped by UMF keeper Callie Hammer. A follow-up shot from Bri Saulter did find its way past Hammer, extending the Husson's lead to 2-0 which the Eagles held through the end of the half.
The Beavers had some scoring opportunities early in the second half, but were unable to convert. Audrey Fletcher's effort was wide of the target in the 51st minute, and UMaine-Farmington was denied on a series of three straight corner kick attempts in the span of 60 seconds in the 58th minute.
Katie Raymond (64th minute) and Sydney Drew (84th minute) eventually tacked on second-half goals for the Eagles, effectively putting the game out of reach.
Hammer registered nine saves for the Beavers. UMaine-Farmington finished the game with six corner kick opportunities to Husson's four.
The Beavers return home for their next contest on Wednesday, Sept. 15, when UMaine-Farmington host UMaine-Fort Kent. Game time at Leib Field is slated for 4:00 p.m.
