Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – A UMaine-Fort Kent squad that was deep with talent hailing from 11 different countries got the better of the University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team as the Beavers fell to the visiting Bengals, 4-0, on Thursday afternoon at Leib Field.
UMaine-Fort Kent's (4-0-1) scoring was evenly divided between the two halves. Julia Audunsdottir scored the Bengals' first goal in the eighth minute off an assist by Sophia Noe. Audrey Ochoa notched UMFK's second goal of the day in the 25th minute, giving the Bengals a 2-0 lead.
As play moved into the second half, Audunsdottir extended Fort Kent's lead to 3-0 in the 54th minute with an unassisted score.
UMaine-Farmington challenged UMaine-Fort Kent in the 60th minute, with a shot by Morgan Thompson that was saved by Bengal keeper Isabel Kiledjian and resulted in a corner kick. However, the Beavers were unable to capitalize on the sequence, and the Bengals' Tonny Pereira tacked on an insurance goal in the 84th minute to cap the scoring.
UMaine-Farmington keeper Callie Hammer registered eight saves in the Beaver goal. UMFK held an 18-2 advantage in total shots taken, and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Beavers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 18, when they travel to Presque Isle, Maine, to face UMaine-Presque Isle. Game time is slated for 3:30 p.m.
