GORHAM, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington golf team placed third out of three teams at the 2021 University of Southern Maine Cup, held Thursday at the Gorham Country Club.
The Beavers fired a 231 (+18) in the tournament, which has the unusual format of six holes of best ball, six holes of scramble, and six holes of alternate shot.
Golfers play in pairs, with UMaine-Farmington fielding the pairings of Daniel Mickiewicz and Kellen True, Neil Larochelle III and Ryan Sargent, and Jack Burton and Chris Frey.
Mickiewicz/True were tied for third on the leaderboard with a two-over 73, while Larochelle/Sargent finished fifth with a 74 (+3). Burton/Frey finished 10th with an 84 (+13).
The University of New England won the tournament with a 223 (+10). Southern Maine was two strokes off the pace in second, while UMaine-Farmington finished third with a score of 231 (+18).
The USM pairings of Carter Burnell/John Welch and Brogan Kane/Zach Ellsworth were tied for first with a one-over 72.
UMaine-Farmington golf returns to the links on Saturday, Sept. 25, and Sunday, Sept. 26, when they compete at the Bowdoin Invitational.
