FARMINGTON, Maine - Zach Chaisson (Scarborough, Maine) and Yusuf Mohamed (Lewiston, Maine) each tallied a goal and an assist to help lead the University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer team to a victory over Fisher College this afternoon at Leib Field.
Mohamed scored the first goal of the contest at the 18 minute mark of the first half off from a beautiful, unselfish feed from Chaisson. Chaisson received a through ball past the back line of the Falcons defense and had a one-on-one with Falcon goalkeeper, Rafeal Fabra (São Paulo, Brazil). Chaisson forced Fabra out of his goal and then slid a pass across the goal mouth where Mohamed just had to tap it in to take a 1-0 lead.
The Beavers would double their lead just ten minutes later. Senior midfielder Logan Curtis (Thorndike, Maine) back-heeled a cross from junior defender Will Dowse (Sherborn, Mass.) to freshman Ieuan Howell (Mount Desert, Maine) who pocketed one into the side net, notching his first collegiate goal.Â
Mohamed would return Chaisson's favor by assisting on Chaisson's goal in the 63rd minute. The goal from Chaisson marked his third of the season and finished off the scoring in Wednesday's contest.
Freshman goalkeeper Jack Wormald (Salisbury, N.H.) made his first collegiate start and did not have to register a save in the shutout. Fabra recorded eight saves in the defeat.
The Beavers held an 18-2 advantage in shots, 11-0 in shots on goal, and 4-2 in corner kicks.
The Beavers are now 5-4-2 on the season while the Falcons fall to 2-10-1.
