FARMINGTON, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington men's and women's track & field teams wrapped up day two of competition at the 2022 New England Division III Indoor Track & Championships, held at separate sites in Vermont and Maine.
At the men's New England Division III Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont, Garrett Jones had the standout performance of the day with a 10th-place finish in the triple jump. Jones' best effort was 13.05m (42-9.75) on his third and final attempt in the event.
On the track, Justin Castaldo ran a time of 1:25.64 in his heat of the 600m, finishing 14th overall.
Seamus Reeve clocked a time of 7.29 seconds in his 60m sprint preliminary, and did not advance to the finals. Reeve also ran in the 200m dash, crossing the line 18th overall with a time of 23.35 seconds.
Henry Scheff posted a time of 8.92 seconds in his 60m hurdles preliminary heat and also did not advance to the finals.
In Saturday's relay events, the UMaine-Farmington quartet of Abshir Abukar, Castaldo, Jones, and Reeve clocked a time of 3:36.55 in the 4 x 400m relay, finishing fourth in their heat and 16th overall. Finally, in the 4 x 800m relay, the Beavers' foursome of Covy Dufort, Yussuf Adow, Jimmy Reel, and Joe Ashby posted a time of 8:32.83, and placed 14th in the event.
The women's New England Division III Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships also wrapped up on Saturday at Colby College in Waterville, Maine.
In the 4 x 400m relay, UMaine-Farmington's team of Grace Broughton, Anna MacDonald, Abigail Minott, and Charlotte Wentworth recorded a time of 4:22.23, a nearly three-second improvement over their seed time in the event. The UMF quartet finished 17th in the event.
