WATERVILLE, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington men's track and field team placed seventh out of eight teams at the 2022 Maine State Indoor Track & Field Championship, held Saturday at Colby College.
UMaine-Farmington tallied 28 points in the meet, one point behind sixth-place Thomas College. Bates College won the meet with 240.5 points, with Bowdoin (180.5), Colby (117.5), Southern Maine (50), and Husson (49.5) placing ahead of Thomas and UMaine-Farmington.
Among the day's top results for UMaine-Farmington men's track & field:
- Abshir Abukar picked up two points with his seventh-place finish in the 400m with a time of 53.08.
- Covy Dufort earned one point in the 5000m after finishing eighth with a time of 16:24.51.
- Henry Scheff took seventh place in the 60m hurdles, posting a time of 9.21.
- In the relays, the UMaine-Farmington team of Garrett Jones, Seamus Reeve, Scheff, and Owen Yabsira placed sixth in the 4 x 400 relay with a time of 3:43.13, earning three points. In the 4 x 800 relay, Yussuf Adow, Joe Ashby, Covy Dufort, and Luke Bliss claimed fifth place with a time of 8:54.36 for four points.
- Adow earned four points in the high jump with a fifth-place showing with a mark of 1.80m (5-10.75), while Scheff added a single point when he finished eighth (1.75m/5-8.75) in the event.
- Garrett Jones was fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.87m (42-2.75).
- Alixx Canwell earned points with sixth-place finishes in both the shot put (12.17m/39-11.25) and the weight throw (13.61m/44-8). Alex Urszinyi finished eighth in the weight throw (12.44m/40-9.75) for one point.
UMaine-Farmington track & field will be back in action next Saturday, Feb. 12, when they complete at the UMaine Invitational in Orono, Maine.
