BRIDGEWATER, Massachusetts – Covy Dufort won the 3000m steeplechase to highlight men's results at Saturday's outdoor season-opening Bridgewater State Bears Invitational track and field meet, held at Swenson Field.
Dufort posted a time of 10:05.19 in the steeplechase, capturing UMaine-Farmington's only first-place finish of the day. He also finished fourth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.49.
Abshir Abukar took second-place honors in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.07, and Alixx Canwell was third in the hammer with a throw of 42.53m (139-06). Canwell also competed in the discus where he was seventh with a mark of 37.18m (122-00).
Luke Bliss finished just outside of a top-three finish with his fourth place showing in the 10,000m run with a time of 35:32.35. Henry Scheff was fifth in the 110m hurdles after crossing the finish line in 16.47 seconds, and followed up with a seventh-place showing in the high jump (1.80m/5-10.75). Garrett Jones also recorded a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.25m (20-6.25).
The UMaine-Farmington 4x100m team of Antonio Ciccomancini, Ben Vachon, Garrett Jones, and Abukar posted a time of 45.78, while in the 4x400m relay the four-some of Justin Castaldo, Jones, Alex Thompson, and Scheff posted a time of 3:39.76.
UMaine-Farmington's outdoor track and field season continues next Saturday, April 2, when they compete at the Southern New Hampshire University Spring Invitational.
