WATERVILLE, Maine - The UMaine-Farmington Beavers traveled to Waterville on Tuesday evening with some momentum on their side following their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win on Saturday vs. UMPI. The Beavers used that momentum to jump out of the gates fast, taking a 1-0 lead in just the fifth minute of the game. The goal would not hold up as the Beaver wound up falling to Colby College 3-1.
Senior midfielder Emily Boyle (Orleans, Mass.) knotted the goal for the Beavers when she one-timed a Mules clear attempt into the top right corner of the net from about 35 yards out. The goal from Boyle was her first of the season. The Beavers had a great opportunity to double their lead when freshman midfielder Kiley Meader (Oakland, Maine) found junior midfielder Audrey Fletcher (Monmouth, Maine) open in the box. Fletcher would rip a hard, low shot to the short side that Mules sophomore goalkeeper Emily McMaster (Menlo Park, Calif.) would lunge and make the save, denying the Beavers a two goal advantage.Â
The Mules would pick up their pressure, putting several shots on freshman goalkeeper Paige Gonya (Sabattus, Maine). Gonya was up to the challenge as she turned away 13 Mules shots on the night. The Mules would break through in the 31st minute when freshman forward Sophie Digrande (Nahant, Mass.) headed in a Jadyn Liebman (Livingston, N.J.) corner kick to tie the game up at one.
Digrande broke the tie in the 40th minute as she settled the ball off from a throw-in toward the left corner, took a touch to her right and fired one over the head of Gonya giving the Mules a 2-1 lead.Â
The Mules would add an insurance marker in the 51st minute. Liebman lined up to take a corner kick. She played the ball short to her teammate who quickly played it back to her. Liebman would take one touch to her left before firing a shot that would find the net over the outstretched arms of Gonya.
The Mules outshot the Beavers 34-3 in total shots, 16-2 in shots on goal, and held a 19-1 advantage in corner kicks.Â
Following the defeat the Beavers dropped to 2-5. The Mules improved to 3-2 on the year.
