Polar Bears Shutout Beavers

BOWDOIN, Maine - On Wednesday night, the 16th ranked Bowdoin College Polar Bears took down the University of Maine at Farmington by a score of 7-0. The Polar Bears took the lead a minute and 22 seconds into the game and didn't look back.

The Polar Bears were able to grab the early lead when senior defender Georgie Coetzer (Johannesburg, South Africa) found the cage on a penalty corner off a feed from Caroline Higgins (Weston, Mass.). The Polar Bears were able to double their lead two minutes later when Sophia Rosati (Newburyport, Mass.) scored off an assist by Maya Malenfant (Weston, Mass.)

For the Beavers, they got a strong performance out of their goalkeeper Alicia Bridges (Livermore Falls, Maine) who registered 19 saves in the defeat. Sophomore defender Emma Willey (Lisbon Falls, Maine) was also credited with a defensive save for the Beavers.

The Polar Bears were led offensively by first-year Lily Clifford (West Bath, Maine) who tallied a hat-trick in the game. Olivia Cunningham (Longmeadow, Mass.) added a goal and an assist for Bowdoin.

The Beavers will open up NECC play this weekend when they host Thomas College on Saturday, October 1st at Prescott Field at 1 PM.
