PORTLAND, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington golf team placed third out of four teams at the USM Cup this afternoon held at the Riverside Golf Club. Saint Joseph's College of Maine came in first place while the University of Southern Maine came in second. Central Maine Community College came in fourth.
Three teams of two golfers would score for each school in the tournament was uniquely constructed to mimic that of the Ryder Cup. Six holes were scramble format, six best ball, and six were alternate shot.Â
The Beavers pairing of Neil LaRochelle III (Lisbon Falls, Maine) and Ryan Sargent (Windham, Maine) shot a 72 which tied them for second place on the day. The 72 tied them with two other teams. USM's pairing of Brogdan Kane (Scarborough, Maine) and Zach Ellsworth (Saranac Lake, N.Y.), and St. Joe's pairing of Sean McDonough (Concord, N.H.) and Dante Cepetelli (Dover, N.H.) also shot a 72 on the day
The medalist was St. Joe's pairing of Devin Coonradt (Metheun, Mass.) and Drew Mathieu (Windahm, Maine) who shot a three under 69 in their winning effort.Â
The Beavers other two teams were Jack Burton (Dayton, Maine) and Will Robert (Fairfax Station, Virginia) who shot and 84, and Chris Frey (Auburn, Maine) and Sam Parsell (Newington, Conn.) shot an 85.
