MORRISVILLE, N.Y. - First-year forward Gabby Vincentsen (Bristol, Maine) scored a goal in the 58th minute but the Beavers were unable to get past the Mustangs in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Sunday afternoon, 2-1.
After a scoreless opening 29 minutes, Morrisville got on the scoreboard with just 23 seconds to play before halftime. After a Beaver turnover, the ball found Rita Dziedzic who ripped a shot into the bottom left corner of the goal, getting by Beaver goalkeeper Ella Grant (Sturbridge, Mass.) whose vision was shielded by traffic in front of the goal.
The Mustangs were able to double their lead 4:39 into the 2nd half. Chyler Barnes hit a slap pass into the penalty area from the right wing that found its way to Emma Plett. Plett lifted an airborne shot that Grant leapt up, got a piece of but not all of as the ball dribbled into the goal to make it 2-0 SUNY Morrisville.
After being unable to register a shot on goal for the first 57 minutes of the game, the Beavers were able to draw a penalty corner leading to Vincentsen's goal. Paris Howes (Jay, Maine) received the insert, and sent a ball towards the front of the goal. The ball pinballed around before landing on the stick of Vincentsen who one-timed a shot into the back of the goal to pick up her 3rd goal of the season.
Grant was solid once again in goal for the Beavers, picking up 12 more saves. Her season save total now sits at 127.
The Mustangs held advantages in shots (26-2), shots on goal (15-1) and penalty corners (15-1) en route to their first victory of the season.
