Terriers Top Beavers in a Non-Conference Contest

WATERVILLE, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team traveled to Waterville tonight to take on North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opponent, Thomas College in what was a non-conference contest. The Terriers offense proved to be too much, taking down the Beavers, 11-0.

Thomas got their offensive attack rolling early when Julia Reny scored 35 seconds into the game. Paige Gilbert stick handled down the right wing past one Beaver defender, took the ball to the end line before sending a pass into the box for Reny who redirected a shot on the backhand to make it 1-0 Terriers.

Leah Knight doubled the Terriers lead just two minutes later. The Terriers were awarded a penalty corner that set up a slap shot from Kara Richards. Beavers goalie Ella Grant (Sturbridge, Mass.) made the save on Richards blast but the rebound fell right to the stick of Knight who powered in the rebound.

Avery Herrick, Grace Slenker, and Reny tacked on goals later in the 1st quarter, helping the Terriers take a 5-0 lead into the 2nd quarter.

A pair of goals from Molly Littlefield and Eva-Marie Stevens in the 2nd quarter extended the Terriers lead to 7-0 heading into halftime. Littlefield was able to tip in a scorching shot from Samantha Thebarge off from a penalty corner. Stevens ripped a hard, low shot past Grant for the goal.

The Beavers were able to gain some offensive pressure in the 2nd half, tallying their first shot on goal in the 3rd quarter and recording four penalty corners in the 4th quarter. The Beavers were unable to record a shot on their four penalty corner attempts.

Herrick and Reny each scored a goal in the 2nd half while Slenker added a pair to finish off the scoring for the Terriers.

Reny and Slenker paced the Terriers with three goals a piece while Herrick chipped in with a pair of goals.

Grant was strong in net for the Beavers, recording 14 more saves to bring her season total to 148.

The Beavers drop to 1-12 on the season while the Terriers improve to 9-6.
