Adow Muscles Beavers Past MMA

BANGOR, Maine - First-year forward Mohamed Adow (Auburn, Maine) picked up a pair of goals in the final five and a half minutes to push the Beavers past Maine Maritime Academy and into the NAC Semifinals. Adow's pair of goals broke a 1-1 tie and led the Beavers to a 3-1 victory.

The Beavers controlled the pace of play from the beginning but were unable to register their first shot on goal until the 17th minute when Adow ripped a left-footed rocket on net that Reagan Moynhan was able to make a strong save on to deny Adow of the opening goal. The rebound off Adow's shot deflected to Zach Chaisson (Scarborough, Maine) who blasted a shot off the right post as the game remained scoreless.

The Beavers continued to mount pressure, tallying a pair of shots in the 20th minute but Moynihan turned away both shots to keep the game scoreless. The Beavers were able to finally get on the scoreboard in the 30th minute when Chaisson carried the ball along the endline and sent a pass into the box that hit off a Mariner defender and into the back of the goal to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead.

The Mariners had an answer just four minutes later when John-John Dickenson found the net on a through ball from Reuben Harrison that sent him in alone with Beaver goalkeeper Jackson Leach (Farmingdale, Maine). Dickenson got in behind the Beavers' backline, forcing Leach to come out off his goal line. Dickenson took a touch around the sliding Leach and carried the ball into the net for the game's tying goal.

The Beavers held possession for a majority of the 2nd half but had nothing to show for it as the game seemed destined for overtime. Adow stepped up huge for the Beavers in the final minutes of the game to secure their spot in Sunday afternoon's NAC Semifinal.

Adow's first goal came off a long ball from Trevor Krueger (Sandwich, Mass.) that Adow was able to leap up and flick on goal forcing Moynihan to make an initial diving save on. The rebound fell right onto Adow's foot who didn't miss, giving the Beavers a 2-1 lead late in the 2nd half.

Adow wasn't done however. Adow took a long clearance from Christian Beliveau (Auburn, Maine) and got in behind the Mariner defense. Adow's initial shot was once again saved by Moynihan but once again there was a rebound. Adow followed his shot and cleaned up the rebound, tucking his second shot in the bottom left corner to provide the Beavers with some insurance with three minutes to play.

Leach needed to make just one save in goal for the Beavers, recording the first playoff victory of his career. Moynihan tallied seven saves for the Mariners.

The Beavers held advantages in shots (20-6), shots on goal (9-2) and corner kicks (7-2).
