FARMINGTON, Maine - First-year forward Mohamed Adow (Auburn, Maine) scored three goals Saturday afternoon to help lead the Beavers to a 5-0 victory in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) cross-over contest against SUNY Cobleskill.
The teams battled through torrential rains and slippery field conditions throughout the game. Despite the rain and the mud, the Beavers could not be slowed down. Farmington was able to get on the scoreboard in the 21st minute when senior Christian Beliveau (Auburn, Maine) ripped a volley off the inside of the post and into the net for his 3rd goal this season. The play was developed when Cade McHugh (Little Compton, R.I.) sent a long throw-in down the line to Adow. Adow flicked the ball over a Cobleskill defender to Zach Chaisson (Scarborough, Maine). Chaisson whipped an outswinging cross into the box, finding the streaking Beliveau for the goal.
After Adow attempted to score a bicycle kick goal in the 31st minute and had another shot from the top of the area denied by SUNY Cobleskill goalkeeper Adam Champlin, he finally found the back of the net in the 37th minute of a deflected cross from Aric Belanger (Manchester, Maine) to give the Beavers a 2-0 lead.
Just five minutes later, Coleman Watson (Readfield, Maine) found the back of the net, converting a volley of his own. Caleb Kolman (Bixby, Okla.) sent a cross from the end line into the box finding the unmarked Watson who ripped a shot directly out of the air. The goal was Watson's 1st of the season and helped the Beavers take a 3-0 lead into halftime.
The Beavers continued their offense showcase in the 2nd half. After getting taken down in the box, Adow converted the penalty kick, sliding his shot to the bottom left corner as Champlin guessed the other direction.
Adow wasn't done however, scoring his 3rd and final goal just two minutes later. Chaisson lofted a ball over the top of the Cobleskill backline to allow Adow to run onto it. Adow, under control the entire time, let a Cobleskill defender slide by before calmly sliding a shot to the lower right corner to give the Beavers a 5-0 lead.
The Beavers were able to control play from start to finish, holding advantages in shots (15-3), shots on goal (11-1), and corner kicks (5-3).
Champlin was fantastic in goal for the Fighting Tigers, making six saves but breaking up numerous Beavers opportunities to score as well.
The Beavers improve to 6-4-2 with the win while the Fighting Tigers are now 3-6-1.
