BOSTON, Mass. - The University of Maine at Farmington men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Frozen 8 Championship hosted by Suffolk University today at The Track at New Balance Center in Boston. The women's team finished in 4th place out of seven teams while the men finished in 5th place out of seven teams.
Men's Highlights
In the men's 60 meter dash, Seamus Reeve (Kittery, Maine) grabbed 4th place with a 7.24 second finish in the finals. Reeve grabbed four points with the finish. Reeve finished the preliminary round in 7.30 seconds. Reeve also scored in the 200 meter dash, finishing the final round in 23.19 seconds to grab one point.
Justin Castaldo (Scarborough, Maine) set a Farmington program record in the 800 meter run finishing in 5th place with a time of 1:59.63. Castaldo scored two points with the finish and was just 2.6 seconds out of 1st place.
Covy Dufort (Wells, Maine) broke the program record in the mile. Dufort finished with a time of 4:25.96 and finished in 5th place overall. He scored a pair of points with the 5th place finish.
The distance medley relay team of Reeve, Jimmy Reel (Nashua, N.H.), Castaldo, and Dufort grabbed 1st place with a time of 10:57.80. The team finished 9.5 seconds ahead of 2nd place Wentworth.
Ben Vachon (Portland, Maine) had a great day in the jumping events for the Beavers. In the high jump, he finished in 5th place with a mark of 1.60 meters. In the long jump, he finished in 4th place with a mark of 6.31 meters. He grabbed a 2nd place medal in the triple jump with a jump measuring in at 12.48 meters. In the three events Vachon totaled 13 points.
The Beavers had a pair of scorers in the shot put. Alixx Canwell (Chelsea, Maine) finished in 2nd place with a throw measuring at 13.06 meters. Alex Sheran's (Nashua, N.H.) throw measured in at 11.73 meters. Canwell's 2nd place finish netted him eight points. Sheran grabbed an additional point with his 6th place throw.
Canwell grabbed another 2nd place medal, this time in the weight throw. His throw was marked at 13.09 meters. In the weight throw, Sheran once again grabbed a 6th place finish. His throw was marked at 11.70 meters.
Women's Highlights
Erica Johnson (Nobleboro, Maine) broke the program record in the 60 meter dash in the preliminary round with an 8.32 second finish. She finished in 7th place in the finals, finishing in 8.51 seconds. Johnson also set a program record in the 60 meter hurdles as she grabbed a 1st place finish. Johnson finished the final round with a time of 10.03 seconds.
Charlotte Wentworth (Sidney, Maine) came in 4th place in the 800 meter run. Wentworth grabbed four points, finishing in 2:32.28.
Eve Poteet (Fairhill, Maryland) narrowly missed scoring in the mile. She finished in 7th place overall with a time of 5:56.31, just .09 seconds out of 6th place.
Wentworth, Abby Minott (Bath, Maine), Poteet, and Anna MacDonald (Bangor, Maine) combined to finish the distance medley in 14:07.72 to grab the 3rd place medal.
Carrie Burr (Pittsfield, Maine) grabbed a 6th place finish in the high jump as she was able to clear the 1.40 meter mark.
In the long jump, Minott was able to grab a 2nd place finish with a leap that was marked at 4.71 meters, just two inches behind the 1st place jump. Minott continued her strong day with a 1st place finish in the triple jump. Minott's jump measured in at 10.01 meters.
Emily Hargreaves (New Gloucester, Maine) and Ilana Lybarger (Brussels, Belgium) tied for 8th place in the shot put with throws measured at 8.63 meters. In the weight throw, Hargreaves finished in 4th place with a throw that was marked at 11.41 meters. Lybarger finished just behind her in 5th place, measuring in at 10.93 meters.

The Beavers will return to action next Saturday when they head to Bowdoin College to compete in the Lynn Ruddy Invitational.
