BOSTON, Mass.- The University of Maine at Farmington men's and women's track and field team wrapped up the indoor portion of their season today at the 2nd day of the New England Championships at The TRACK in Boston.
On the men's side, Alixx Canwell (Chelsea, Maine) competed in the shot put, Covy Dufort (Wells, Maine) ran in the 1,000 meter, Lucas Tuttle (Framingham, Mass.), Ben Vachon (Portland, Maine), Tom Gingras (Gardiner, Maine), and Justin Vigue (Lyman, Maine) ran in the 4x400 meter relay, and Dufort, Justin Castaldo (Scarborough, Maine), Yussuf Adow (Auburn, Maine), and Jimmy Reel (Nashua, N.H.) ran in the 4x800 meter relay.
On the women's side, Charlotte Wentworth (Sidney, Maine) ran in the 800 meter run, Carrie Burr (Pittsfield, Maine), Cara Perry (Stougton, Mass.) Sarah Chapin (Readfield, Maine), and Kennedy Todd (Scarborough, Maine) ran in the 4x400 meter relay, and Anna MacDonald (Bangor, Maine), Abigail Minott (Bath, Maine), Eve Poteet (Fairhill, Maryland), and Wentworth competed in the 4x800 meter relay.
Dufort had a very strong race in the 1,000 meter race. He placed 14th overall, with a time of 2:35.03. Dufort also placed 1st in his individual heat.
The team of Gingras, Tuttle, Vachon, and Vigue placed 25th overall in the 4x400 meter relay. Gingra ran the 1st leg, doing so in 55.12 seconds. Tuttle ran the 2nd leg, finishing his leg in 55.02 seconds. Vachon ran a 57.49 second 400 in the 3rd leg while Vigue was the closer, finishing his portion in 1:07.99. The four combined for a time of 3:55.62.
In the 4x800 meter relay, Adow ran the 1st leg, finishing in 2:03.02 to give the Beavers a great start. Castaldo ran in the 2nd leg and was able to finish with a time of 2:01.13. The 3rd leg was run by Dufort who completed it in 2:09.41. Lastly was Reel, who was able to finish in 2:08.23. The team finished in 14th place overall with a time of 8:21.80 and breaking a program record by 10 seconds.
For the women, Wentworth placed 24th overall in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:25.21. The event was extremely competitive, with six runners finishing with a time in the 2:25's.
Burr, Perry, Chapin, and Todd placed 24th in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:45.38. Burr ran the first leg of the relay, finishing in 1:07.72. Perry ran the 2nd leg in 1:10.55. Chapin finished the 3rd leg in 1:17.98. Todd was the final runner, finishing with a solid time of 1:09.11.
MacDonald, Wentworth, Minott, and Poteet placed 16th overall in the 4x800 meter relay, breaking a school record by 24 seconds. The finished with an overall time of 10:37.48 MacDonald got the Beavers off to a strong start with a 2:40.42 1st leg. Wentworth ran the 2nd leg, finishing in 2:40.72, keeping pace with MacDonald. Minott ran the 3rd leg for the Beavers and finished with a time of 2:41.53. Poteet closed the relay out with a time of 2:33.75.

The Beavers will have a month to prepare for their 1st outdoor meet of the season, scheduled for March 25th at Wesleyan.
