WATERVILLE, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team fell on the road on Wednesday afternoon, 14-2 to Colby College at Coombs Field. The Beavers dropped to 2-10 after the loss while the Mules improved to 10-3.
The Beavers got a great start out of junior Chris Albert (Bradley, Maine) who went five innings giving up just three runs while scattering seven hits and striking out two. Albert came out of the game with the Beavers behind 3-1.Â
The Beavers got on the scoreboard in the top of the 6th. Derek Gendreau (Hampden, Maine) reached on an error and moved up to 2nd on a groundout. Gendreau stole third with two outs and came around to score on a throwing error by the catcher.
The Beavers made it a one-run game in the top of the 7th inning. Ryan Sargent (Windham, Maine) ripped a one-out double and came around to score on an RBI single from Will Cauchon (Kingston, Mass.)
Freshman Jameson Bloch (Attleboro, Mass.) took over for Albert in the bottom of the 6th inning. In the inning, Bloch worked around a two-out single to record a scoreless inning. In the bottom of the 7th things began to come a little unraveled for Beavers. Ethan Hillenberg led off with a walk. Matthew Panker hit a ground ball where the Beavers elected to try to get the lead runner but Hilleberg beat the throw to 2nd and everyone was safe. Bloch got the next batter to fly out but Brady O'Brien singled to drive in Hillenberg to make it 4-2.
Anthony Boyle (Wallingford, Conn.) came on for Bloch with runners on 1st and 3rd and one out. Cole Palmeri quickly greeted him with a single, scoring Panker. Boyle got Ryan Grace to hit into a fielder's choice to record the 2nd out. But Patrick McConnell drilled a two-RBI double and Marcus Forrester followed with an RBI double of his own to make it an 8-2 game.
The Mules continued the scoring in the bottom of the 8th inning, scoring six runs on three hits, three walks, and two errors to make it 14-2.Â
At the plate, Nate Coombs (Thomaston, Maine) went 2-3 while Jonny Pruett (Waterford, Maine), Hunter LaBossiere (Oxford, Maine), Sargent, and Cauchon all went 1-4.
For the Mules, Hillenberg went 3-3 with three runs scored. Clint Flippo, O'Brien, Palmeri, McConnell, Forrester, and Panker each added two hits. Joe Sylvester pitched the first four innings of the game giving up a pair of hits while striking out one.Â

The Beavers travel to Dudley, Massachusetts on Sunday to take on Nichols College. 1st pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
