Beavers Hold Their Own at SNHU Spring Twilight Invitational

HOOKSETT, N.H. - The University of Maine at Farmington men's and women's track and field teams competed in the Southern New Hampshire Spring Twilight Invitational this evening. The Beavers competed against competition primarily made up Division II teams, but held their own, walking away with a handful of individual victories.

Women's Highlights

In the 100 meters, senior Abby Minott (Bath, Maine) placed 10th overall with a time of 13.63 seconds in the highly competitive event.

Sophomore Charlotte Wentworth (Sidney, Maine) had a pair of impressive races this evening for the Beavers. First off in the 200 meters, Wentworth placed 7th overall, finishing with a time of 29.01 seconds. Wentworth then broke the school record in the 400 meters and took home 1st place, winning the event by almost a full four seconds. She finished the race in 1:02.98.

Freshman Erica Johnson (Nobleboro, Maine) continued her fantastic track and field season for the Beavers. Johnson placed 3rd in the 100 meter hurdles, setting a massive personal record and the school record as well with a time of 16.24 seconds.

Minott and Johnson placed 1st and 2nd in the triple jump with almost identical jumps. Minott grabbed 1st with a jump of 10.27 meters. Johnson's 2nd place jump was marked at 10.26 meters. 

Sophomore Anna MacDonald (Bangor, Maine) placed 4th in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, finishing in 13:21.43.

The Beavers 4x100 meter relay team of Carrie Burr (Pittsfield, Maine), Johnson, Minott, and Kennedy Todd (Scarborough, Maine) placed 3rd with a time of 54.60 seconds. 

Kaitlyn Harmon-Bolding (Biddeford, Maine) and Emily Hargreaves (New Gloucester, Maine) placed 9th and 10th overall respectively in the discus. Harmon-Bolding's throw was marked at 27.58 meters and Hargreaves was marked at 27.32 meters. 

Hargreaves, who is the reigning North Atlantic Conference Field Athlete of the Week, grabbed 1st place in the hammer throw. Hargreaves' throw came in at 38.51 meters. Ilana Lybarger (Brussels, Belgium) also placed inside the top-five in the Hammer throw with a throw of 32.66 meters to place 4th overall. Harmon-Bolding placed 7th with her 28.28 meter throw.

Men's Highlights

Justin Castaldo (Scarborough, Maine) placed 4th overall with a strong 53.64 second time in the 400 meters. Seamus Reeve (Kittery, Maine) also placed inside the top-ten, finishing in 8th place with a time of 54.52 seconds.

Covy Dufort (Wells, Maine) broke the program record in the 5,000 meter, finishing with a time of 15:36.82. Dufort placed 4th overall in the race, just 4.10 seconds out of 1st place. 

Yussuf Adow (Auburn, Maine) had a great day in several events for the Beavers. He took 1st place in the 110 meter hurdles in a photo finish. Adow finished with a time of 17.87 seconds, just .01 second ahead of 2nd place. Adow and Tom Gingras (Gardiner, Maine) placed 5th and 6th overall in the 400 meter hurdles. Adow placed 5th in 1:03.54 while Gingras was 6th with a time of 1:05.29. Adow then placed 2nd in the high jump, clearing the 1.78 meter marker.

The four-man team of Adow, Castaldo, Ben Vachon (Portland, Maine), and Reeve placed 2nd in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 45.90 seconds, just .79 seconds out of 1st place.

Vachon and Justin Vigue (Lyman, Maine) each placed in the top-10 of the long jump. Vachon's jump was marked at 6.38 meters to take 1st place. Vigue finished in 8th place with a jump of 5.27 meters. 

Vachon also placed 2nd in the triple jump with a mark of 12.23 meters, just .02 meters out of 1st place.

Alixx Canwell (Chelsea, Maine), fresh off being named the North Atlantic Conference Field Athlete of the Week, continued his standout season. Canwell broke a pair of school records in the shot put and the hammer throw. Canwell placed 4th overall in the shot put with a throw marked at 13.54 meters, qualifying for the New England Regional Championship in the process. In the hammer, Canwell's throw was marked at 48.49 meters to break the school record and place 1st overall. Canwell also placed inside the top-10 in the discus with a throw of 36.27 meters to finish in 8th.

Alex Sheran (Nashua, N.H.) also had a great day in the field events. Sheran placed 8th in the shot put after his throw was marked at 11.63 meters. He then placed 6th overall in the hammer with a throw of 35.98 meters.

Alex Urszinyi (Lawrencville, N.J.) placed 8th in the hammer with a throw of 32.23 meters.
