LaBossiere Sets Farmington Doubles Record as Beavers Fall 11-5 to Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team surrendered six runs in the 7th and 8th innings after battling back to tie the game at five in the top half of the 7th. The Beavers ended up dropping the game, 11-5 to the Polar Bears.

Hunter LaBossiere (Oxford, Maine) entered Sunday morning's game tied for the Farmington program record in doubles with 26. He quickly broke that, doubling down the left field line to lead off the game and become the program's all-time leader. LaBossiere advanced to third on a groundout from Jameson Bloch (Attleboro, Mass.) and came in to score on a Ryan Sargent (Windham, Maine) SAC fly to give the Beavers an early lead.

The Polar Bears got that run back quickly in the bottom of the 1st on an RBI single through the hole on the left side to score Chris Dirks.

Aidan Carey led off the bottom of the 2nd with a double, advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch and came into score on the errant throw to regain the lead for the Polar Bears.

The Beaver responded with a run of their own in the top of the 3rd to knot the game back up at 2-2. Bloch and Sargent hit back-to-back one-out singles to give the Beavers runners at the corners. Nate Coombs (Thomaston, Maine) grounded into a fielder's choice that allowed Bloch to score.

Grant Collins helped Bowdoin regain the lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the 4th.

The Beavers grabbed the lead on a couple of Polar Bear miscues in top of the 5th. LaBossiere reached on an error to lead off the inning but was thrown out stealing for the 1st out of the inning. Bloch followed with a walk, Sargent then picked up another single, and Coombs walked to load the bases. Derek Gendreau (Hampden, Maine) hit a grounder to 2nd base that was flipped to the shortstop for the 1st out but on the return throw to 1st, the ball sailed and allowed Bloch and Sargent to come in to score.

Carey delivered a two-RBI single up the middle with two outs in the bottom of the 5th, bring in Richie McNamara and Christian O'Brien, to give the Polar Bears a 5-4 lead.

But the Beavers weren't done battling. Sargent continued his strong day at the plate with a lead off double in the top of the 7th and came into score on an RBI single from Gendreau to re-tie the game at five.

The Polar Bears regained the lead for good in the bottom of the 7th inning on another RBI single from Collins. Mike Moynihan added a two-RBI double to make it an 8-5 game through seven innings.

The Polar Bears tacked on three insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th. Chris Dirks scored on an executed double steal, Will Bordes scored on a wild pitch and Luka Tsai added an RBI double to make it 11-5.

Sargent led the Beavers at the plate, finishing 3-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. LaBossiere and Gendreau each tallied a pair of hits for the Beavers. Ky Morris (East Wenatchee, Wash.) pitched five innings, giving up five runs but just two earned, while striking out eight. Lucas Tuttle (Framingham, Mass.) was charged with the loss.

Carey led the offensive charge for Bowdoin, going 4-4 with four runs scored, an RBI, and a walk, Bordes picked up three hits and Moynihan, Dirks, and Collins each added two.
