LaBossiere Sets All-Time Hits Record, Husson Tops Beavers on Senior Day

FARMINGTON, Maine - University of Maine at Farmington senior outfielder Hunter LaBossiere (Oxford, Maine) ripped a single in the bottom of the 5th inning of game two to tally his 128th career hit and set the program record for hits in a career. Saturday afternoon also marked senior day for the Beavers as they were able to honor the careers and contributions of their three seniors, LaBossiere, Will Cauchon (Kingston, Mass.), and Danny Terhune (South Burlington, Vermont). Husson University played spoiler, winning both ends of the doubleheader. 

Game One

The starting pitchers for each team had it going on for the first five innings as Sam Wrigley (Farmington, Maine) and Matt Wallingford made it through five innings scoreless. 

The Eagles got to Wrigley in the top of the 6th. After getting the lead off batter to fly out to center, Tanner Evans and Jackson Curtis hit back-to-back singles and Ethan Stoddard drew a walk to load the bases and chase Wrigley from the game. Logan Holcomb (Hebron, Conn.) took over on the mound and was met by Akira Warren who doubled to left, scoring a pair and giving the Eagles the lead. David York picked up a SAC fly and Ty Knowlton added an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-0.

Jameson Bloch (Attleboro, Mass.) and Ryan Sargent (Windham, Maine) led off the bottom of the 6th with back-to-back walks. Ryan Robb replaced Wallingford on the mound and got Nate Coombs (Thomaston, Maine) to ground into a double play to record the first two outs of the inning. Cauchon came through with a big RBI double and came around to score on an RBI single from Terhune to cut their deficit to 4-2.

The Eagles had an answer, scoring four runs in the 7th to take a six run lead. Warren and York picked up RBI singles while Hunter Curtis added a two-RBI double. Robb got the Beavers to go in order in the bottom half of the inning to close out the win.

Bloch led the Beavers at the plate, finishing 2-2 with a walk. 

Jackson Curtis was 3-4 with a pair of runs scored and Warren finished 2-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored to pace the Eagles.

Game Two

The Eagles scored single runs in the first three innings before plating four in the 5th to break things open. 

Stoddard recorded an RBI single in the 1st to bring in Kobe Rogerson to grab the lead. Colin Marshall picked up and RBI on a SAC fly in the 2nd. Stoddard added an RBI double to left to make it 3-0 through three innings. 

The Eagles scored four runs on four hits in the 5th inning to open up a 7-0 lead. Warren drew a bases loaded walk and Hunter Curtis followed with an RBI single. Knowlton then drove in a pair with a single to left center.

The Beavers got on the board for the 1st time in the 5th with three straight two-out singles. Jonny Pruett (Waterford, Maine) single to left, LaBossiere ripped his record breaking single to left, and Bloch followed with an RBI single to make it a 7-1 game. 

Warren came into score on a passed ball to score the 8th run of the game for the Eagles in the 9th inning.

Cal Tibbitts (Bath, Maine)  finished 2-4 while LaBossiere, Bloch, Sargent and Pruett all picked up hits for Farmington.

Stoddard paced the Eagles going 3-5 with two RBIs and a run scored. Hunter Curtis finished 3-4 with an RBI and run scored. Evans and Jackson Curtis picked up a pair of hits. Connor Abood went the distance, pitching all nine innings, surrendering one run on six hits and striking out five. 

UP NEXT

The Beavers travel to Bangor tomorrow to take on Husson in what was originally scheduled to be played in Farmington but was moved due to weather. Game one is set to begin at 12 PM.
