WATERVILLE, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington men's track and field team placed 3rd overall with 147 points at the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship held at Colby College. Thomas College won the Conference Championship, narrowly beating defending champion SUNY Delhi.
Ben Vachon (Portland, Maine) picked up a pair of gold medals with wins in the triple jump and the high jump. In the triple jump, Vachon was marked at 12.66 meters in his 5th attempt to take 1st place. In the high jump, Vachon cleared the 1.78 meter bar on his 1st attempt to take home the gold. Vachon also added a 2nd place finish in the long jump with a jump marked at 6.50 meters. In total, Vachon scored 28 points individually.
Covy Dufort (Wells, Maine) won the 3,000 meter steeplechase by over 14 seconds to take home the gold medal. Dufort finished with a time of 10:08.39. Dufort also added a 4th place finish in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:15.47, scoring five points. He also picked up three points in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:02.38 to place 6th.
Yussuf Adow (Auburn, Maine) and Thomas Gingras (Gardiner, Maine) each scored in the 110 meter hurdles. Adow placed 6th overall with a time of 17.04 second to pick up three points. Gingras scored one point with his 8th place finish. He finished with a time of 18.78 seconds. Adow and Gingras also both scored in the 400 meter hurdles. Gingras placed 5th with a time of 1:03.29. Adow finished narrowly behind Gingras with a time of 1:03.42 to place 6th. Adow also placed 2nd overall in the high jump, clearing the 1.78 meter bar, picking up eight additional points.
Seamus Reeve (Kittery, Maine) finished 4th overall in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.31 seconds, picking up five points. Reeve sat in 6th place after the preliminary heats, but was able to move up two spots in the finals.
Jimmy Reel (Nashua, N.H.) placed 3rd overall in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:24.53. He was just 2.1 seconds behind 2nd place, picking up six points for the Beavers.
After winning the hammer throw on Saturday afternoon, Alixx Canwell (Chelsea, Maine) continued to be a force. Canwell placed 3rd overall in the shot put with a throw marked at 13.85 meters, picking up six points. He also placed 3rd overall in the discus with a 38.69 meter throw in his 2nd attempt, picking up six more points.
Alex Sheran (Nashua, N.H.) and Connor Demmons (Farmingdale, Maine) each scored in both the discus and the shot put. In the shot put, Sheran placed 5th overall with a throw of 11.62 meters. Demmons was 8th overall after his throw was marked at 11.31 meters. In the discus, Demmons was 6th with a throw of 36.89 meters while Sheran was 8th with a throw marked at 35.75 meters.
Justin Vigue (Lyman, Maine) placed 7th overall, picking up two points in the triple jump, being marked at 11.04 meters.
