WATERVILLE, Maine - Due to unplayable field conditions in Farmington, the University of Maine at Farmington baseball team was forced to be the home team this afternoon against Thomas on Thomas's home field. The Beavers dropped game one 10-5 and game two 12-0.
Game One
The Terriers opened up a big lead early, pushing across four runs in the top half of the 1st inning. Tony Meza was hit by a pitch and moved over to 3rd on a double from Cam Haynes. Nick Huston followed with an RBI single to put Thomas on the board. Aaron Young followed with an RBI single of his own to make it 2-0. Matt Seymour was hit by a pitch to load the bases with still just one out. Beaver junior starting pitcher Chris Albert (Bradley, Maine) got Jason Bartlett to ground into what appeared to be an inning ending 4-6-3 double play. But Bartlett was ruled to have beat the throw at 1st. Huston scored on the play and Young ran hard the whole way from 2nd base to also score to make it 4-0.
Thomas added a pair of runs in the 2nd to make it 6-0. The Terriers loaded the bases with nobody out. Haynes hit a SAC to center allowing Tylor Dodd to score. Elijah Morton scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.Â
Seymour tallied an RBI single and Bartlett added a two-RBI double in the 4th inning to make it 9-0.
Thomas starting pitcher Jarrad Willette took a no-hitter into the 5th inning before Nate Coombs (Thomaston, Maine) singled to left to break it up. Jonny Pruett (Waterford, Maine) had walked earlier in the inning and advanced to 3rd on the single from Coombs. Danny Terhune (South Burlington, Vermont) singled to right center to score Pruett and Coombs and get the Beavers on the board.
Young scored on an error in the top of the 6th to make it 10-2.
Farmington continued to battle in the bottom of the 7th, tacking on three runs on a pair of hits with two outs. Coombs and Terhune each walked, bringing up Hunter LaBossiere (Oxford, Maine). LaBossiere hit a ball to deep right center into the wind that continued to carry away from the right fielder and into the gap, getting down for a double to score Coombs and Terhune. Ryan Sargent (Windham, Maine) followed with an RBI single but was stranded on base to end the game.Â
Willette pitched 4.2 innings giving up two runs on two hits and five walks while striking out six to pick up the win. Albert pitched 3.1 giving up nine runs on nine hits while striking out four.
Young and Reid Gagnon each went 3-4 to lead the Terriers.Â
Game Two
The Terriers once again put up runs in the 1st inning to jump out to another early lead. Haynes scored on a wild pitch and Seymour hit an RBI single in the inning for Thomas.
Young ripped a two-run home run to right center in the top of the 3rd to double the Terriers lead.
Seymour picked up an RBI single and Young scored on a SAC fly from Bartlett to make it 6-0 in the 5th inning.Â
Hutson, Seymour, and Bartlett each picked up RBI singles in the top of the 6th inning to make it 9-0.
The Terriers added three more runs in the top of the 8th to finish off the scoring.
The Beavers bats went cold in game two, only able to muster three hits in the game. Pruett, Coombs and Sargent all picked up hits for the Beavers.Â
Hutson went 3-4 with four runs scored, Seymour was 3-5 with three RBIs, while Haynes, Gagnon, and Austin Stebbins all recorded two hits for Thomas.
Garrison Paillet pitched the first six innings, giving up just two hits and two walks while striking out five to pick up the win. Sophomore starter Will Harriman (Biddeford, Maine) went four plus innings giving up six runs on nine hits.

The Beavers travel to Waterville again tomorrow to take on the Terriers in another North Atlantic Conference doubleheader beginning at 1 PM.
