Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Beavers Fall at Home, 3-0 to Plymouth State

FARMINGTON, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team were unable to pick up their first home win of the season, losing Tuesday afternoon's contest to Plymouth State, 3-0 at Leib Field.

After the opening 13 minutes saw neither team generate a shot, the Beavers registered the first shot, a left-footed rocket off the foot of senior Emily Boyle (Orleans, Mass.) that banged off the crossbar, keeping the game scoreless.

The Panthers cracked the scoreboard in the 20th minute when Neveah Petruzzi one-time a pass from Tindra Bergstrand into the back of the net. Bergstrand beat one Beaver defender and drew a second before sliding a pass across the goal mouth to the open Petruzzi for the goal.

Tess LeDuc doubled the Panthers goal in the 25th minute where she was able to get just enough of an Olivia Howard in-swinging corner kick from the left corner, scoring her first goal of the season.

The Beavers ended the 1st half with a flurry of shots. The first coming from Kiley Meader (Sidney, Maine) who received a long through pass from Sydney Belanger, sending Meader in one-on-one with Panthers goalkeeper Sydney Rowe. Rowe denied Meader with a diving save to her right. After a 2nd shot from Meader was blocked, Farmington was awarded a corner. Audrey Fletcher (Monmouth, Maine) served a ball towards the six-yard box where it was redirected by Abby Lash (Waldoboro, Maine) right into the hands of Rowe.

Just seconds later Fletcher found Lash streaking down the left wing. Lash ripped a shot on Rowe who made a sprawling save as the 1st half buzzer sounded.

In the 62nd minute Beaver goalkeeper Paige Gonya (Sabattus, Maine) made a pair of impressive saves to keep the game tied. Plymouth State's Molly Bellmore had a break away opportunity and ripped a shot causing Gonya to dive to her right where she was able to get a big enough piece to redirect it out of danger. Just seconds later she denied Petruzzi with a kick save. The ball was deflected out of bounds after the save, awarding the Panthers a corner kick. Howard whipped in another in-swinging corner into the box that was headed into the back of the net by Bergstrand to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead.

The Beavers were unable to get a formidable chance over the final 25 minutes, their only shot was a 35-yard strike off the foot of Fletcher.

Gonya made four saves in net for the Beavers. Petruzzi, Bergstrand, and Bellmore were credited with goals while Howard tallied a pair of assists to pace the Panthers. Rowe finished with four saves for Plymouth State.

The Beavers dropped to 1-3-1 on the season following the loss. The Panthers are now 1-2-2, picking up their first win of the season.
