Chaisson’s Big Day Leads Beavers to Conference Victory

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Junior forward Zach Chaisson (Scarborough, Maine) erupted with three goals and an assist to lead the University of Maine at Farmington men' soccer team to a massive 7-0 victory over Lesley University in their North Atlantic Conference opener. The Beavers improved to 3-3 on the season with the victory.

Chaisson wasted no time getting the Beavers on the board, cracking the scoreboard in just the 9th minute. A long throw-in from the left wing from Cade McHugh (Little Compton, R.I.) sent Chaisson in behind the Lynx backline. Chaisson leapt to win the ball before firing a shot over the sprawling Lynx goalkeeper Josiah Williams.

McHugh doubled the Beaver lead in the 19th minute, polishing off a beautiful feed from Chaisson. Brady Stockwell (Readfield, Maine) sent a long, lofting pass into the box that was settled by Chaisson. He beat one defender and was in alone with Williams. He drew Williams off his line before sliding a pass across the goal mouth to the wide open McHugh who just had to touch the ball across the line to give the Beavers a 2-0 lead.

The Beavers got on the scoreboard again in the 30th minute when Mohamed Adow (Auburn, Maine) received a pass behind the Lynx defense on the left wing. He carried the ball toward the net, beat one defender and slid a shot towards the far post. As the ball got past Williams, a sliding Lynx defender attempted to clear the shot but his attempt came up short, redirecting the ball into the net for a 3-0 Beaver lead.

Adow found the back of the net in the 35th minute off a feed from Caleb Kolman (Bixby, Okla.). After a Lesley clear attempt was blocked, Kolman found a wide open Adow alone with Williams. Adow ripped a shot past Williams to keep the Beavers offense rolling.

Chaisson got back in the mix just three minutes later. After getting taken down in the box, Chaisson beat Williams on a penalty kick to give the Beavers a 5-0 lead that they took into halftime.

It was more of the same in the 2nd half for the Beavers. McHugh scored his 2nd goal of the game just 46 seconds into the half to pile onto the Beavers lead. Chaisson picked up his 2nd assist of the game, whipping a cross into the box that McHugh was able to get a head on and beat the diving Williams, extending the Beaver lead to 6-0.

Chaisson picked up his hat trick goal in the 54th minute. A throw-in from Adow sent Chaisson in behind the Lynx defenders. Chaisson ripped a shot on a drawn out Williams. Williams appeared to make the save but the ball popped directly up in the air and bounced across the line to make it a 7-0 Beavers lead.

The Beaver defense was strong all day, not giving an inch to the Lynx offensive attack. The Beavers held a 12-3 advantage in shots and a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal. First-year goalkeeper Jackson Leach (Farmingdale, Maine) picked up both saves for the Beavers in the 2nd half.

Chaisson finished with three goals and two assists while McHugh and Adow each finished with two goals and an assist to lead the Beavers onslaught.
