Grant Records Career-High, 23 Saves in Beavers Loss to Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine - First-year goalkeeper Ella Grant (Sturbridge, Mass.) was outstanding in goal all game for the Beavers, picking up a career-high 23 saves in the University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team's 12-0 loss at the hands of Colby College.

Grant and the Beaver defense was under consistent pressure throughout the contest as the Mules rattled off 47 shots, including 36 shots on goal en route to the victory. The Beavers were unable to tally a shot of their own in the game. 

Grant made three consecutive saves over a 15 second span in the 4th minute but the Mules fourth shot from Catherine McNulty just seconds later got Colby on the scoreboard for the first time. 

Claire Welch, Lillian Kistner, and Molly Mitchell added goals in the 1st quarter, helping the Mules take a 4-0 lead after the first 15 minutes of play.

Grant continued to stand strong in the 2nd quarter, picking up three more saves. McKay Allain and Jenna London added goals in the quarter, extending the Mules lead to 6-0 going into halftime. 

The 2nd half was more of the same for the Mules, controlling the pace of play and tallying six more goals. 

Allain and Mitchell led the Mules with a pair of goals each while Jesse Owles and Annie Raynes each tallied a goal and two assists. The Mules recorded 17 penalty corners.

The Beavers will host Husson University in their home opener on Saturday at 12 PM.
