FARMINGTON, Maine - After playing in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) for two years, the University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team dropped their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener in their return to the conference, 9-0 at the hands of Husson University.
The Eagles got their offense going early tallying four penalty corners in the opening four minutes of play. Faith Tillotson redirected a shot from Tessa Capozzoli in the 5th minute to make it 1-0 Eagles.
After drawing another penalty corner, Teagan Blackie ripped a shot from the top of the penalty area and found the bottom left corner of the cage on a feed from Hope Bouchard.
The Eagles grabbed a 3-0 advantage when Maddie Arsenault scored off a feed from Averi Baker.
Blackie and Phoebe Carlock tallied goals in the 2nd period to help the Eagles extend their lead to 5-0 going into halftime.
The second half was more of the same for the Eagles. Maddie Perkins scored a pair of goals and Julia Murch and TIllotson each scored one of their own to extend the Eagles lead to 9-0.
The Beavers were unable to muster much offensive pressure throughout the game as they did not record a shot and were not awarded a penalty corner. First-year goaltender Ella Grant (Sturbridge, Mass.) continued her streak of double-digit saves, recording 14 more in the game.
Perkins, Tillotson, and Blackie each tallied a pair of goals to lead the Eagles offensive attack.
Husson moves to 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in NAC play. The Beavers are now 0-6 and 0-1 overall in NAC play.
