DUDLEY, Massachusetts - Nichols College scored three goals in the opening six minutes of Saturday afternoon's contest en route to a 3-1 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer team.
The Bisons first goal of the game came in just the 2nd minute of the game when Juanesteban Hincapie won a ball along the endline inside the box and laid a ball back to Tristan Phillips who fired a one time to the upper left corner, over the outstretched arms of Beavers sophomore goalkeeper Jack Wormald (Salisbury, N.H.).
The Bisons quickly doubled their lead with a goal a minute later. After a turnover in the Beavers defensive zone, Nichols' Brady Stevenson took a couple dribbles before sending a pass over to William Savage who one-timed a shot past the diving Wormald to make it a 2-0 game.
The Bisons third goal was scored by Stevenson who was in the right place at the right time and found the back of the net. A Nichols corner kick was pinballed inside the 18-yard box before it landed on the photo of Stevenson who one-timed a shot into the upper right corner to give the Bison the 3-0 lead.
The Bisons held a steep 14-1 advantage in shots after the 1st half. The Beavers began to turn things around in the 2nd half, beginning to generate scoring chances of their own. After a pair of Aric Belanger (Manchester, Maine) shots were sent over the crossbar and one wide, the Beavers were finally able to find the back of the net as Christian Beliveau (Auburn, Maine) cleaned up a rebound to pick up his 1st goal of the season. The play developed on a long throw-in from Cade McHugh (Little Compton, R.I.) who sent the throw into the box that was headed by a pair of Bison defenders before finding Belanger who sent a half-volley towards the goal the ricocheted off the crossbar right to Beliveau who had to just slide the ball into the back of the goal.
First-year Mohamed Adow (Auburn, Maine) had an opportunity to pull the Beavers within one in the 85th minute when he had a one-on-one with Bison keeper Benji Carr. Adow's shot sailed wide to keep the Beavers deficit at two.
Wormald made five saves in the first half while Jackson Leach (Farmingdale, Maine) saw his first collegiate action in the 2nd half, picking up a pair of saves. Carr made one save for the Bison.
