HENNIKER, N.H. - The University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team traveled to Henniker, New Hampshire to take on former New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) opponent, New England College on Wednesday evening. With the NECC no longer a conference, both teams have joined separate conferences with the Beavers in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) and the Pilgrims in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC). The Pilgrims won the rematch, 9-0 over the Beavers.
Meaghan McCamish scored the first goal of the game just 3:27 in, tipping in a Taylor bailey shot from the top of the penalty area.
The Beavers had an opportunity to tie the game up in the 9th minute when first-year Gabby Vincentsen (Bristol, Maine) forced a Pilgrim turnover, beat a defender, and drew a penalty corner. The Beavers were unable to record a shot on the penalty corner attempt.
McCamish doubled the NEC lead in the 10th minute, lifting an airborne shot into the goal after a failed clear attempt by the Beavers. McCamish recorded her hat-trick goal just 21 seconds later. McCamish found herself in the right place at the right time as Drea Chin's shot got blocked and fell right into McCamish's lap. McCamish fired a shot into the lower right corner past Beaver first-year goalie Ella Grant (Sturbridge, Mass.).
Chin notched a goal of her own late in the 2nd quarter, beating Grant on a turnaround shot from the center of the penalty area.
Bailey scored a goal of her own in the 44th minute of the 3rd quarter of a feed from Chin.Â
The Pilgrims tacked on four more goals in the 4th quarter as Emma LaPierre scored twice and Mikayla Vincent and Chin added goals of their own.
Grant was phenomenal in goal again tonight for the Beavers. Grant matched her career-high in saves with 23. The 23 saves by Grant now gives her 114 for the season, extending her NCAA Division III save lead.
Amy Philbin stopped both Beaver shots that she saw.
