FARMINGTON, Maine - Four different University of Maine at Farmington players scored goals to lead the Beavers to a 4-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Tuesday afternoon at Lieb Field. The Beavers moved to 4-4-1 on the year and a perfect 2-0 start in conference play.
The Beavers controlled the pace of play from the get-go holding a 5-2 advantage in shots and a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks in the opening 25 minutes of the game. The Beavers were able to crack the scoreboard in the 30th minute when senior captain Aric Belanger (Manchester, Maine) found the back of the net for the second time this season. Senior captain Christian Beliveau (Auburn, Maine) was awarded the assist on Belanger's goal.
The Beavers held a 1-0 lead entering the second half and continued their offensive pressure to open the half. Beliveau picked up his second assist of the game in the 64th minute when first-year Mohamed Adow (Auburn, Maine) scored his team-leading sixth goal of the year.
The Beavers were awarded a penalty kick in the 71st minute when an Owls defender was whistled for a handball in the box. Senior captain William Dowse (Sherborn, Mass.) converted the penalty kick to extend the Beavers' lead to 3-0. The goal from Dowse marked his first of the season.
Just four minutes later, the Beavers struck again when senior captain Garrett Whitten (Readfield, Maine) ripped a shot top shelf off a free kick played by junior Zach Chaisson (Scarborough, Maine). The goal from Whitten was the second of his collegiate career.and first of the season.
First-year goalkeeper Jackson Leach (Farmingdale, Maine), making his second collegiate start, picked up his first win saving both shots he faced.
Owls goalkeeper Xavier McAtee finished with five saves.
The Beavers were able to control the play for a majority of the game holding advantages in shots (18-6), shots on goal (9-3), and corner kicks (10-2).
