MANCHESTER, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington golf team placed 6th overall at the Mariner Invitational hosted by Maine Maritime Academy played at the Augusta Country Club in Manchester, Maine.
Junior Neil LaRochelle III (Lisbon Falls, Maine), and seniors Ryan Sargent (Windham, Maine), Jack Burton (Dayton, Maine), and Chris Frey (Auburn, Maine) combined to shoot a four-man score of 337 in their 6th place effort.
LaRochelle III carded the lowest score of the afternoon for the Beavers, placing tied for 10th individually with a 77. LaRochelle continues his strong season for the Beavers, carding his 4th consecutive score in the 70s. LaRochelle finished with a 40 on the front nine before tallying a 37 on the back.
Sargent got back on the right foot on Thursday afternoon, carding an 82 to tie for 18th overall as an individual. Sargent shot a 45 on the front nine but was able to settle down on the back nine, shooting a 37 on the final nine holes.
Burton finished with an 86 to place tied for 26th as an individual. Burton followed a similar path to Sargent, carding a 45 on the front nine before settling down on the back nine with a 41.
As the final scoring Beaver, Frey tallied a 92 with a 45 on the front and a 47 on the back nine. Frey placed tied for 33rd overall.
Thomas Thornton (Readfield, Maine) played as the fifth golfer today for the Beavers, and carded a 99.
Husson University took home first place as a team and the individual crown. The Eagles shot a four-man score 284, 30 strokes lower than the 2nd place team. The Eagles had the top five scorers for the afternoon, including Chris Kaupilla who was the individual winner with an even par, 70.
