CASCO, Maine - University of Maine at Farmington senior Ryan Sargent (Windham, Maine) shot a team-low 75 en route to placing tied for 3rd overall at the John Queenan Memorial tournament this afternoon. The John Queenan Memorial Tournament was played at Point Sebago Golf Course and was hosted by Saint Joseph's College. The Beavers top-four golfers combined to shoot a 355 and place 8th overall as a team.
Sargent started hot and stayed that way for the entirety of his round on Wednesday afternoon. Sargent shot an even par (36) on the front nine and a +3 (39) on the back nine to lead the Beavers on the course.
Neil LaRochelle III (Lisbon Falls, Maine) finished 10 strokes behind Sargent with an 85. LaRochelle shot a 41 on the front nine and a 44 on the back.
Chris Frey (Auburn, Maine) and Thomas Thornton (Readfield, Maine) were the other two Beavers to contribute to their four-man score. Frey carded a 98 while Thornton finished with a 97.Â
The Beavers are looking to get better everyday as they gear up for the North Atlantic Conference Tournament on October 7th and 8th. The Beavers should be at full strength in the near future as they work key contributor Jack Burton (Dayton, Maine) into the mix in the near future.
Wednesday's tournament was highly competitive with five teams within nine strokes of one another. But it was Gordon College who placed 1st overall as a team, shooting a four-man score of 314. The University of New England and Husson each carded 322's to take 2nd while St. Joe's and Thomas were tied for 4th at 323 each.
Dylan Cunningham of Thomas College placed 1st individually, shooting an even par, 72.
