Sunday River Rail Jam Recap

NEWRY, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington freeski/snowboard team competed in a USASA Rail Jam even this past Sunday at Sunday River. A pair of Beavers took home gold medals as on the snowboard side, Blue Lagoda (Syracuse, N.Y.) grabbed the gold while Maxwell Hamilton (Brunswick, Maine) took home gold in the freeski event.

Lagoda impressed with several flashy boardslides as well an impressive deadlung trick to close out his run en route to a 1020 score and the gold medal. Caelan Billings (Sullivan, Maine) finished narrowly behind Lagoda in 2nd place to secure silver. Billings pulled off a series of tricks including a switch 180 as well as numerous clean big airs out of the big box.

Hamilton took gold with a fancy 270 on, 270 out of the down tube to impress the judges. Hamilton scored a 1040 to secure his first collegiate gold medal. Zachary Chaisson (Scarborough, Maine) grabbed the silver medal in freeski, converting a nose butter 270 on among other tricks. Arden Weaver (Surry, Maine) took home the bronze medal after completing a clean 270 on, pretzel 270 out amongst other impressive tricks. Weaver totaled a score of 820 in his efforts. Dominique Richard (Lewiston, Maine) finished just outside the top-three in 4th place completing a 450 out and well executed switch lip blind 270.

The Beavers next event is scheduled for February 9th and 11th at Sunday River.
