LAKE PLACID, New York - University of Maine at Farmington men's snowboarder Caelan Billings (Sumner, Maine) finished the week at the USCSA National Championship on a high note, taking home the bronze medal in the Giant Slalom National Championship on Saturday at Whiteface Mountain.
The event included 41 athletes, with 36 of the 41 completing the two runs necessary to place in the event.
Billings posted a pair of steady runs, finishing his first run in 41.72 seconds and his second run in 51.25 seconds after the course was reset. Billings' time from the first run was the third-fastest of any athlete on the course, while his time in the second run was the fourth-fastest. Overall, Billings finished with a combined time of 1:32.97.
Callaway Bodie of the University of Minnesota Duluth took home the gold medal after finishing his two runs in 1:25.81. Lees-McRae College earned the Team National Championship title after their three racers combined for a total time of 4:56.70.
Billings being the only Beaver to race forced two ghost times into the team's overall placement. With the ghost times added to Billings' time, Farmington finished with a total time of 10:05.21 to place 11th overall.
