Billings Collects 5th Place Finish in Snowboard Slalom National Championship

LAKE PLACID, New York - University of Maine at Farmington senior snowboarder Caelan Billings (Sumner, Maine) put together a pair of impressive runs en route to earning fifth place on Thursday in the USCSA Snowboarding Slalom National Championship at Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, New York.

In an event where racers' final time is a combination of their two run times, Billings posted a total time of 1:10.99. Billings opened with a time of 32.87 seconds in his first run and sat in seventh place. He responded with a time of 38.12 seconds in his second run, the fifth-fastest time of any competitor on the course.

The event began with 44 competitors, but only 32 of them placed in the event, as the other 12 either did not finish one of their two runs or were disqualified.

Bodie Callaway of the University of Minnesota Duluth ran away as the National Champion, finishing over four seconds ahead of any other snowboarder after posting a time of 1:00.51 across his two runs.
