Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bates Too Much For Beavers

LEWISTON, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer team could not keep pace with the Bates College Bobcats on Tuesday evening, dropping a non-conference contest on the road, 6-1. The Bobcats entered play ranked 5th overall in the United Soccer Coaches Region I.

The Records:

The Beavers fall to 4-3-1 at the halfway point of their 2024 campaign. The Bobcats improved their record to 6-2-1 with the victory.

How it Happened:

The Bobcats got the scoring started in the 20th minute after first-year defender Ahmed Abdow (Lewiston, Maine) was called for a penalty inside the Beavers defensive box, setting up a penalty kick for Bates. Tife Agunloye took the penalty kick and deposited the shot past sophomore goalkeeper Jackson Leach (Farmingdale, Maine) who guessed incorrectly, diving to his right as Agunloye shot to Leach's left.

Cesar Hoover extended Bates' lead to 3-0 later in the 1st half with a pair of goals just 24 seconds apart. Hoover's first goal came as he one-timed a shot to the near side, beating the diving Leach. Agunloye picked up the assist on the goal. The Beavers were called for a second penalty in the box setting up Hoover's 2nd goal.

Bates continued their offensive attack to open up the 2nd half as Andrew Goddard found the back of the net, winning the ball out of the air off a corner kick and then sliding a shot into the open net as Parker Day (Brentwood, N.H.), who had taken over in goal for Leach to start the half, was drawn out trying intercept the cross from Ollie Schiff Stein.

Farmington cut into the deficit in the 54th minute when William Dowse (Sherborn, Mass.) tallied his 2nd goal of the season. Abdilahi Abdi (Lewiston, Maine) sent a high lofting corner kick toward the back post where Dowse was waiting and headed the ball into the back of the net to make it a 4-1 game.

Mauro Kalaora scored 17 minutes later on an assist from Tomas Alberola to extend the Bobcats' lead to 5-1. Isaiah Brown found the net in the 81st minutes to make it a 6-1 game and finish off the scoring.

Team Stats:

The Bobcats controlled a majority of the play, outshooting the Beavers 23-6 overall and 7-2 in shots on goal. Bates also held a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.

The Goalkeepers:

Leach and Day split time in the goal and registered just one save between the two of them. Trevor Hammond and Luca Balzano split time in net for the Bobcats and also combined for just one save.
