Men’s Golf in 5th Place After Day 1 at the NAC Championship

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The University of Maine at Farmington golf team battled through steady rain and raw temperatures on day one of the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship at the Chicopee Country Club, finishing 54-over par and positioned in 5th place. 

Husson University sits in 1st place, shooting an 18-over par (302) and leading SUNY Delhi by nine strokes heading into day two.

Beaver Golfers:

Senior Neil LaRochelle III (Lisbon, Maine) led the Beavers on the course today, playing out of the two-spot. LaRochelle III finished with a five-over par, 76 and currently sits tied for 3rd overall, just two strokes back of Chris Kauppila who is in 1st. LaRochelle finished with one birdie and 11 pars with matching 38s on the front and the back nine.

Senior Jack Burton (Saco, Maine) golfed out of the number one spot for the Beavers. Burton carded an 81 (+10) after shooting a 41 on the front nine and a 40 on the back nine. Burton stayed tough, carding eight pars for the round. After the first day, Burton is in 13th place overall.

Chris Frey (Auburn, Maine) finished with an 88 (+17) out of the three-spot for Farmington. Frey found his stroke after the first couple of holes. After a pair of triple bogeys on the first four holes, Frey carded seven pars on the final 14 holes. Frey carded a 46 on the front nine and a 42 on the back nine and currently is tied for 24th overall.

First-year Cooper Boinske (Westfield, Maine) had a little bit of an up-and-down round, finishing with just one par but also birdying one hole en route to a 22-over par, 93. Boinkse carded a 47 on the front nine and a 46 on the back nine. He currently sits in 31st place after day one.

Derick Capp (Winslow, Maine) is golfing out of the five-hole this weekend for the Beavers. This tournament is the first tournament Capp has competed in this season. Capp shot a 111 (+40) on day one and sits in 43rd place.

Day two will commence tomorrow morning with the NAC Championship trophy on the line. Capp will be the first Beaver to tee off, doing so at 10:15 AM. Boinske will follow at 10:24 AM, Frey at 10:33 AM, LaRochelle III at 10:42 AM, and Burton at 10:51 AM.
