Beavers Fall to Monks in Return to Action

STANDISH, Maine - After going nine days without a game, the University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team dropped a non-conference battle on the road against Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 6-0.

The Records:

The Beavers are now 0-11 on the season, while the Monks improved to 7-7 following the win.

How It Happened:

The Beavers and Monks played to a scoreless first quarter, with the Monks held to just two shots.

Farmington had its first shot on goal in the opening minutes of the second quarter. After drawing a penalty corner, Gabby Vincentsen (Bristol, Maine) inserted the ball to Allie Bliss (Underhill, Vermont), who blasted a shot, but Kassidy Collins made a kick save to keep Farmington off the scoreboard.

Sadie Tirrell got the Monks on the scoreboard for the first time in the 19th minute when she slipped one past Ella Grant (Sturbridge, Mass.) on an assist from Isabella Littler.

The Monks doubled their lead in the 29th minute as Maya Waryas found the cage, giving St. Joe's a two-goal lead heading into halftime.

The Beavers kept the Monks off the scoreboard for the first 13 minutes of the third quarter, but a goal from Kienna Haley with one minute and 38 seconds left in the quarter made it a 3-0 game.

Haley, Waryas, and Zoey Lailer added goals in the fourth quarter to extend the Monks' lead to six.

Offensively, the Beavers were held without a shot after the second quarter and couldn't generate a penalty corner in the second half.

Team Stats:

The Monks held advantages in shots (19-2), shots on goal (17-1), and penalty corners (8-3) to secure the victory.

The Goalkeepers:

Grant had a stellar game in goal for the Beavers, making 11 key saves. Collins finished with one save in the shutout victory.
