Thomas Tops Beavers in CMCFHC Action

WATERVILLE, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team was unable to keep pace with rival Thomas College on Saturday afternoon in a Central Maine Collegiate Field Hockey Conference (CMCFHC) contest at Bernatchez Field in Waterville, Maine. The Terriers scored four goals in the first quarter and coasted to a 12-0 win.

The Records:

The Beavers fell to 0-12 with a 0-3 record in CMCFHC action following Saturday's loss. Thomas improved to 9-6 with a 2-1 record against CMCFHC opponents following the win.

How It Happened:

The Terriers got their offense rolling early, scoring just three minutes and 35 seconds into the first quarter. After Ella Grant (Sturbridge, Mass.) made a point-blank save off a well-executed Terrier penalty corner, the rebound found Julia Reny, who slipped a shot into the cage to stake Thomas to an early lead.

A minute and 50 seconds later, Reny found Samantha Thebarge on another well-executed penalty corner to double Thomas' lead.

Thirty-three seconds after Thebarge's goal, another Terrier penalty corner led to a Leah Knight goal, making it 3-0. Paige Gilbert was credited with the assist on Knight's goal.

Reny scored her second goal of the game at the 9:55 mark, as Thebarge returned the favor by assisting on Reny's goal.

The Terriers continued to find success on penalty corners in the second quarter. After a slap shot from Thebarge was blocked, she found an open Reny for Reny's hat-trick marker, giving Thomas a 5-0 lead.

Tatiana Roque added a goal in the final minutes of the second quarter to push Thomas' lead to six heading into halftime.

Reny scored two goals and added an assist in the third quarter as Thomas continued to widen its lead. Leah Knight was the beneficiary of Reny's third-quarter assist.

Goals from Thebarge, Reny, and Knight in the fourth quarter made it a 12-0 game.

Reny finished with six goals and two assists, while Thebarge finished with two goals and three assists to lead Thomas offensively.

Emma Willey (Lisbon Falls, Maine) was stellar defensively for the Beavers, recording a pair of defensive saves.
