The UMF Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2024 honors four former athletes and one longtime administrator.
Zac Reed '04 was a four-year member and two-way standout for the Beavers on the baseball field. Reed graduated as one of the best baseball players to ever play on Hippach Field and still sits in the top-ten of numerous statistical categories in the UMF baseball record book.
At the plate, Reed finished his career as a .315 hitter, just outside the top-15 in program history. He also totaled 58 runs batted in, 71 runs scored, and 23 stolen bases. In the record books, Reed currently sits 10th overall in runs batted in for his career, 7th overall in runs scored, 11th in stolen bases.
As a senior, Reed had one of the best individual seasons, both on the mound and at the plate, of any Beaver in program history. He finished the season having batted .374 with three home runs, 23 RBIs, and 31 runs scored. For a season, the .374 average is the 8th best all-time, 23 RBIs is tied for 10th, 31 runs ties him for 3rd overall, and home runs sits him tied for 9th for a single season.
On the mound, Reed was a true workhorse. Reed holds two of the most difficult records to be broken, holding the program record in innings pitched and complete games. Throughout his four year career, Reed made 32 appearances on the mound, 20 of which were complete games, and totaled 178.1 innings pitched. At the time of his graduation in 2004, Reed was 2nd overall in total appearances, he currently is tied for 9th. Reed holds the record in innings pitched, 9.1 innings higher than any other pitcher in the program's history, and in complete games, registering five more than any player to play at Farmington.
Reed finished his career registering 11 wins with 111 strikeouts, both of which place him inside the top-ten of the UMF baseball record books. He is currently tied for 7th overall in wins, and 8th overall in career strikeouts.
Reed's most dominant season on the mound came during his sophomore season. In 2002, Reed finished with five wins and a 2.23 ERA, hurling seven complete games and a pair of shutout victories. Reed currently sits 2nd overall in program history in single season wins, 1st overall in complete games for a single season, and tied for 2nd overall in single season shutouts
Reed continued his success on the mound during the 2003 and 2004 season. In 2003, Reed chewed up 50.0 innings, finishing with four complete games. During his senior season, Reed totaled 48.2 innings on the mound and six complete games.
Following the 2004 season, Reed was named the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Pitcher of the Year and to the North Atlantic Conference All-Conference 1st Team.
While at Farmington, Reed earned a Bachelor's of Fine Arts Degree in Creative Writing. Today, Reed is a Marine Designer at Bath Iron Works.
