Women’s Nordic Opens Season at NENSA Eastern Cup

CRAFTSBURY, Vermont – The University of Maine at Farmington women's Nordic team kicked off their 2024-25 season this weekend at the NENSA Eastern Cup. The two-day event was hosted at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center in Craftsbury, Vermont, and attracted over 100 athletes from some of the top institutions and Nordic ski clubs in the Eastern United States.

Saturday's event featured a classic sprint with heats to determine who would advance to the qualifiers. The top 30 athletes moved on. On Sunday, the competition continued with a 10K individual start.

Junior Ayla Bodach-Turner (East Montpelier, Vermont) had a strong showing over the two days. On Saturday, she finished with a time of 4:05.98, placing 85th overall—just 24 seconds shy of qualifying. On Sunday, Bodach-Turner placed 42nd in a highly competitive field, finishing with a strong time of 34:12.1.

Sophomore Cora Treiss (Berlin, N.H.) had an excellent start to her season. In the sprint on Saturday, Treiss posted a time of 4:45.39, which earned her 122nd overall. On Sunday, in the 10K, Treiss finished 76th with a time of 39:35.4.

First-year Kelsey McCrum (Greenbush, Maine) competed in her first collegiate event this weekend. In Saturday's sprint heat, she finished with a time of 5:57.91 and did not qualify to advance, placing 135th overall. On Sunday, McCrum finished 103rd in the 10K with a time of 57:29.9.

The Beavers return to action in the New Year, opening their USCSA schedule on January 11th and 12th in Jackson, New Hampshire.
