HOLDERNESS, N.H. – The University of Maine at Farmington women's nordic team will return to the USCSA National Championships for the third consecutive year after placing third overall at the Eastern Regional Championship this past weekend.
Due to inclement weather on Sunday, what was originally scheduled as a two-day event was condensed into a one-day competition to determine the teams advancing to the USCSA National Championships in Bend, Oregon.
The Beavers were led on the course by junior standout Ayla Bodach-Turner (East Montpelier, Vermont), who placed second overall among all skiers and was the top-ranked USCSA skier, earning one point for the team. Bodach-Turner completed the 7.5k skate-style race in 21:48.95, topping Elise Creagan by just over two seconds for the top spot.
Sophomore Cora Treiss (Berlin, N.H.) also finished in the top ten among USCSA skiers, earning eighth place in the USCSA standings, though she placed 18th overall in the ECSC. Treiss finished with an impressive time of 23:16.24.
First-year Kelsey McCrum (Greenbush, Maine) also had a strong race for the Beavers, finishing 50th overall and 24th among USCSA skiers. McCrum completed the 7.5k race in 30:21.15.
The trio of Bodach-Turner, Treiss, and McCrum combined for 32 points, securing the third qualifying spot to Nationals.
The USCSA National Championships are set to begin on March 10th. More information about the event will be released soon.
