Men’s Freeski/Snowboard Team Qualifies for Nationals After Winning Gold at Magic Mountain

LONDONDERRY, Vermont - The University of Maine at Farmington men's Freeski and Snowboard teams each took home gold on Saturday at the ECSC Regional Championships at Magic Mountain in Londonderry, Vermont. With the 1st place finishes, both the freeski and the snowboard teams have qualified for the USCSA National Championship in March to be held in Lake Placid, New York.

In the freeski event, sophomore Arden Weaver (Surry, Maine) stood out after executing a 270 on, pretzel 270 out of the tube as well as hitting a 270 out of the flat up flat rail as well as the handrail. Weaver grabbed the silver medal with his strong performance.

The rest of the freeski team was able to put together clean runs, helping to contribute to the team's 1st place finish.

On the snowboard side, sophomore Caelan Billings (Sullivan, Maine) grabbed the individual gold medal in impressive fashion. Billings hit a huge shifty over the hub, a 360 off the hip, as well as a method off the jumps. Fellow sophomore Ezra Mathieu (Lewiston, Maine) grabbed the silver medal, scoring just behind Billings. Mathieu completed a boardslide 270 out of the tube along with a 180 on, pretzel 180 out of the handrail. Senior Blue Lagoda (Syracuse, N.Y.) also contributed to the team's 1st place finish with a frontboard on the flat rail as well as numerous clean presses.

This is the 3rd consecutive season that the freeski/snowboard team has qualified for the National Championship.
