Mathieu and Weaver Each Take Gold in Slopestyle at Sunday River

NEWRY, Maine - Sophomores Ezra Mathieu (Lewiston, Maine) and Arden Weaver (Surry, Maine) each grabbed gold medals in a slopestyle event at Sunday River on Friday afternoon. Mathieu grabbed gold in snowboarding slopestyle while Weaver's gold came in the freeski division.

Mathieu stood out to the judges by executing a frontboard 270 out of the first rail. He then followed that up on the jumps, landing a backslide 360 on the first set of jumps and a front side 540 on the second jump. Overall Mathieu recorded 1,020 points.

Blue Lagoda (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored 2nd to grab the silver medal in snowboarding. Lagoda was able to complete a clean boardslide on the first rail and then landed a 180 off the first jump as well as an Indy grab off the second jump. Lagoda grabbed 910 points in his 2nd place effort.

On the ski side, Weaver finished with 1,050 points in his gold medal effort. Weaver's run was extremely well executed and clean. He completed a 270 out of the rails at the top of the course and then was able to land a switch cork 540 on the first jump and a misty 720 on the second jump.

Maxwell Hamilton (Brunswick, Maine) took 2nd place overall, finishing with 940 points. Hamilton was not far off from Weaver, completing very similar tricks on the rail section of the course. On the jumps section, Hamilton side flipped the first jump and hit a cork 720 on the second to grab the silver medal.

Zach Chaisson (Scarborough, Maine) grabbed 3rd place and the bronze medal after recording 830 points. Chaisson landed a couple of clean runs, but especially stood out to the judges on the jumps. He landed a 360 on the first and a cork 720 on the second jump.

Dominique Richard (Lewiston, Maine) and Carson Theriault (Fort Kent, Maine) also competed in the event. Richard grabbed 4th place while Theriault finished in 5th.
