Women’s Alpine Takes 12th in Slalom at Nationals

LAKE PLACID, New York - The University of Maine at Farmington women's alpine team grabbed 12th place overall in today's slalom event at the USCSA National Championships in Lake Placid, New York.

Thursday's race conditions were not much different to the rest of the week with warm weather and low amounts of snow creating a tough course.

All five Beavers were able to grind through their runs, with each of them finishing both, marking the first time in program history all five skiers placed in a National Championship event. Elanore Robb (Woodbury, Minn.) came in 38th place, Hokulani Caroselli (Temple, Maine) in 44th, Lauren Kessen (Sussex, Wisc.) in 59th, Fallon Smith (Nelson, N.H.) in 73rd, and Grace Mahmood (Oxford, Conn.) in 76th.

Robb had a pair of runs eerily similar to one another. Robb finished her first run with a time of 1:00.48 before trimming down a little more than a quarter of a second off her time in the second run, finishing in 59.73 seconds. Robb's two runs combined for a time of 2:00.21.

Caroselli finished less than a second behind Robb, posting a combined two-run time of 2:00.98. Caroselli finished the first run with a time of 1:00.98 and the second run in 1:00.00.

Kessen was the third Beaver to contribute to the team's 12th place score, posting a two-run time of 2:06.43. Kessen posted a time of 1:03.52 in her first run and a time of 1:02.91 in her second run.

Robb, Caroselli, and Kessen combined for a team time of 6:07.62, less than eight seconds outside of the top-ten.

Smith and Mahmood did not contribute to the team's score but posted respectable times. Fallon posted a time of 2:16.08 while Mahmood finished with a time of 2:19.49.

The Beavers will wrap up the 2024 season on Saturday with the Dual Slalom National Championship.
