St. Cyr Earns Best Finish in Program History at USCSA Slalom National Championship

LAKE PLACID, New York - University of Maine at Farmington women's alpine sophomore standout Rosie St. Cyr (Pownal, Maine) posted the best finish in program history on Thursday, racing to an eighth-place finish in the USCSA Slalom National Championship at Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, New York.

St. Cyr was extremely consistent in each of her two runs, posting a time of 1:41.14 across both runs. St. Cyr sat in 10th place after her initial run, finishing in 50.21 seconds. She was then able to jump up the leaderboard after flying through the course on her second run in 50.93 seconds. The time in her second run was the fourth-quickest of any skier on the course.

The event began with 129 competitors but ended with just 79 who were able to complete both runs. Forty-one skiers either did not start, were disqualified, or did not finish their first run. Nine skiers registered a DNF on their second run and did not place in the event.

Aspen McAuley of Hobart and William Smith College secured her second medal in as many events, earning gold on Thursday after grabbing the silver medal on Tuesday in the Giant Slalom National Championship. The University of Connecticut topped the field as a team, with their top three finishers combining to post a time of 5:06.92.
