LAKE PLACID, New York - University of Maine at Farmington women's alpine skier Rosie St. Cyr (Pownal, Maine) opened her week at the USCSA National Championships at Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, New York on Tuesday, competing in the Giant Slalom National Championship.
St. Cyr qualified for the National Championships as an individual and is competing unattached to a team score. On Tuesday, St. Cyr finished her first run in 1:13.94, the 42nd-fastest time out of the 102 athletes who completed their first run. After the course was reset prior to the second run, St. Cyr posted a time of 1:14.18. Across her two runs, St. Cyr finished with a combined time of 2:28.12 en route to placing 36th overall in the loaded field.
Overall, Julia Wiacek from Babson earned the top spot after finishing her two runs in 2:11.86. Wiacek's time was nearly a full second faster than Aspen McAuley of Hobart and William Smith Colleges, who placed second.

Wednesday will serve as a training day before St. Cyr returns to competition on Thursday in the Slalom National Championship.
