Husson Sweeps Farmington to Open Weekend Series

BANGOR, Maine - Husson University took down the University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday afternoon in a pair of games to open up a four-game weekend series. The two games couldn't be more different. Game one was a pitcher's duel with the Beavers falling 1-0. The Eagles offense broke out in game two, scoring 20 runs to take down Farmington, 20-6.

Game One

The Beavers got a fantastic start out of sophomore Jameson Bloch (Attleboro, Mass.). Bloch pitched six innings, scattering six hits and striking out three, but took the hard fought loss.

Farmington's best opportunity to score came in the top of the 2nd. Bloch, who hit for himself, drew a one-out walk and moved over to 2nd on a SAC bunt from Callister Montembeau (Kennebunk, Maine). Jonny Pruett (Waterford, Maine) followed with a two-out single to give the Beavers runners at the corners. Connor Abood struck out Ike Wrigley (Farmington, Maine) to thwart the Beavers scoring threat.

The Eagles plated the winning run in the bottom of the 5th. Kevin Connolly and Colin Marshall hit back-to-back one-out singles to grab the 1-0 win. \

The Beavers went relatively quietly, going down in order in the 6th and getting a two-out single from Montembeau in the 7th.

Abood was tough for the Beavers to hit, going all seven innings, giving up just three hits and striking out four to pick up the victory.

Game Two

Game two was an offensive showcase. The two teams combined for 29 hits and 26 runs as the Eagles went on to win 20-6.

Husson jumped out quickly, scoring four runs in the opening frame. Akira Warren opened the scoring with an RBI double to left. Cam Rendell doubled to right center, plating two more runs. Rendell scored on a wild pitch later in the inning.

Husson's offense kept rolling in the 2nd inning. Jack Cote and Jackson Curtis each hit solo home runs, extending the Eagles lead to 6-0 after two.

Matt Holmes connected on an RBI double in the 5th, helping the Eagles extend their lead to 8-0.

The Beaver offense was able to push across their first run of the game in the top of the 6th. Bloch led off the inning with a double to right and came around to score on an RBI single from Pruett.

The Eagles offense continued to produce in the bottom half of the 6th, adding to their lead. Justin Salvatore drove in Warren with an RBI groundout after Warren tripled to lead off the inning. Henry Lausier hit a SAC fly and Jack Cote walked with the bases loaded as Husson opened up an 11-1 lead.

The Beavers got back into the game, scoring five in the top of the 8th. Sam Parsell (Newington, Conn.) hit an RBI single to score Paul Vachon (Brookline, N.H.) who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning. Pruett followed with his second RBI single of the game. Parsell scored on a wild pitch and Colby Lewis (Blue Hill, Maine) hit a two-run single up the middle to make it an 11-6 game through seven and a half.

The Eagles put the game away in the bottom of the 8th, scoring nine to make it a 20-6 game. Cote and Salvatore delivered a pair of big blows, tallying two-run singles in the inning.

Warren and Cote each had three hits to lead the Eagles. Cote drove in a game-high four runs to lead the offensive charge for the Eagles.
